So I was thinking, we learn something new all the time, and information is key to a successful reef aquarium. So I figured I would ask "What have you learned today?"

    I will start:

Today I learned, when you are taking the silicone off your tank to be repaired you need some acetone to remove the residue from the glass. If not it takes a whole bunch more time to scrape the residue off manually.

I hope this helps someone if they have a leek in their tank and need to repair it..

Ive learned to never ever put GSP in my tank ever again. I am having to battle this stuff all the time. where it is now I dont even know how im going to remove it ,so it does not kill off some of my favorite SPS. ugh

Not exactly today, but I've learned to never start a small tank with the intention of upgrading. It's a lot cheaper, faster, and easier to build the bigger tank first and be done with it.

    BTW, excellent thread, Z. :)

Never place a German Blue above an Acon unless it is epoxy into place. Moral of the story, if you have Hermit crabs in your tank, epoxy is a frag disk best friend.

the easier maintenance steps are, the more likely you will be to do them.
maintenance is key to a successful tank.
making maintenance steps easy and fast will only help the road to success

I learned a few water change techniques yesterday in reading the thread where people shared their various methods. I think I may be saving my back some in my next WC.

I learned to clean the glass where you want to put your seaweed clip. This morning it was gone and floated into a hole somewhere. lol

    Ty Mr. Bill.

I learned not to leave my RO/DI unit outside where the sun can shine directly on it and it needs to be out of 100 degree heat. Lucky for me I read it in the manual before any damage came to my unit. :)
