Something I've learned is that the diodes can discolor and lose their spectrum and intensity when run at maximum capacity full-time. In some cases, this has occurred in less than one year. That's why many buy over-powered units and run them at 70% or less to meet their lighting requirements. Another advantage is that they will also last longer. :)

I have read about this being done with a lot of the LEDs out there. However I was referring to the fixtures that use 3w diodes and they are set at 1/4w with out being able turn them up. At least that is what I was reading about some of the cheap fixtures. If I am wrong, I want to know..

I learned about the Bayer insecticide dip even further after some research and that each hobbyist is finding that there is some wiggle room when doing the dip as far as the dose goes. Seems to be quite effective for treating those new corals before going into the DT. Especially for treating acros and getting rid of the pesky AEFW even though it does not kill the eggs.

Nope, you are absolutely correct- some cheaper units do underdrive the diodes dramatically, but others try to overdrive weak ones too, so you really need to do the math to avoid both pitfalls. :)

Today, I learned you can dry your LR out for 2 years and still miraculously have a brittle star in your tank without adding LR or LS.
