I am in the market for a decent RO/DI filter. my lfs uses Spectrapure, are they good and which one would you recommend? or is there another brand filter you would use?

Also, can they just hook up to a sink or do they need to be plumbed in?

    Thanks!

Wow, there are so many to pick from. I also use the Spectrapure MaxCap 90gpd and its an awesome unit, a little over-priced(imo). Our sponsers also sell good RO/DI units, so look into them. Just pick one that fits your current and future needs and you'll be set. Luna

RO/DI's will pretty well remove all the TDS. This prevents some problem infestations (silicates cause diatom blooms, other stuff can cause algae. different stuff, different algae) TBH It's nice to have RO/DI around for lots of things (like making trelane tea)

Because, you were planing to make trelane tea, right? ;D

The lower the micron the better it is. Does it make a big difference?...........yes if you have a very high tds reading or get your water supply from a well. Luna

You shouldn't need to spend $305 on an RODI unit.

This unit has more than you'll need unless you want a special fitting for hooking it up to your sink or something.

There are cheaper ones as well that produce pure water that is just as good as the more expensive units just doesn't have some of the bells and whistles.

Also I highly recommend getting one of the dual TDS meters from there as well, it's the only way you can tell when to change your membrane/DI unit.
