i actually have a shorter version of one of those sitting on my night stand. How would i get that fan to work for the tank? i wouldn't have any place to mount it up and make the plug reach the extension cord

Actually, that's not quite true. The tank will cool as a result of evaporation. The same way that your skin feels cooler in the breeze on a warm day. Energy (heat) in the tank is expended to turn the liquid water into water vapor. The fan removes the water vapor from above the tank and replaces it with dry air to facilitate more evaporation. You need to be blowing dry air across the tank. Blowing humid air will not be effective.

However, you are right the chiller will be more effective and will be able to drop the temp much further than the fans can without excessive evaporation.

only thing about a chiller, no room for it on the tank, and to much money. So i'm stuck with fans.

Also the AC is currently slowly lowering the tank temp, it is now at 82.something lol

The fans will only be able to lower the temp a few degrees. They won't cut it for an 88 degree room.

Agreed, if the house is 88 and there are pumps in the tank, even with fans, you will maybe be able to keep it at 83-84 at best, which is too high to keep inhabitants healthy and comfortable. When the lights come on and the water temp is still high... :-/

Chiller, or turn up the A/C.

I use one of these over my sump. It lowers a 100G display and 30G sump 5-7 degrees and needs to be shut off at times or it fights my heater. Thats in Phoenix too and we have a set back thermostat on the house AC so its warm in the house during the day while we are at work.

They are usually $8 in the store and i have seen them on closeout now for $3. I always keep a couple extras around just in case but the one over the sump has been running for 3 years now with only an annual cleaning.

I have a similar setup. Mine also lowers the temp to the point where the heater kicks back on at 80. I would like to get a controller to control the fan and heater so they don't fight. Now that fall is here it can wait until the spring.

Pick up the Reefkeeper Lite for $99, it'll do the trick plus much more. I have mine where it shuts the lights off and alarms if it gets over a setpoint I determine. I also control the fans and heater as well as have powerheads on a wavemaker function and can put the pumps on standby for target feeding. At $99 you can't beat it, and Corals Mania discounts it slightly as does Bulk Reef.

i use a pinpoint wireless digital thermometer and that thing is ALWAYS DEAD ON. I cross reverence with a glass thermometer but the digital is much easier to read.
