    I have something growing in my salt water tank, but I don't know what it is. It is no coral I planted for sure, but it is beautiiful as it waves in the current. It is round like a mushroom coral, only it is not smooth like a mushroom. It has lines beginning @ the center & extending to the edge. It is brown in color & has grown quite a bit since in appeared. @ first I thought it was a feather duster, but I don't think they look like this.
    Does anyone know what it is ?

    does it have "arms" that extend like an anenome. initial and most likely hitch hiking guest , is aiptasia. i know you cant post pics, so sometimes playing charades can make it tough to id. do a search and see if thats what it is

    It could be a zoanthid/palythoa or maybe a different type of mushroom. Try google image searching or check some online vendors to see if you can match it up since there are no pics.

    Sounds like a palythoa. Watch for a color change, if it begins to carry a green luminescence it is definitely that. There is a hitch hiking variety that shares such a description. (The lines that start at the os that move to the periphery towards the tentacles).

    No legs/Not aiptsai

    It doesn't have legs like a sea anemone & it is not aiptsai. I would recognize that, having had a problem with it in the past.

    Possible ?

    Is it possible for a type of mushroom to appear without having been placed in the tank ?

    It is possible, I found 2 on some live rock i bought the other day. Pics would deffinately help, although i do realize you cant post any. Is there anyone near you that can come take some pics for you?
