The most expensive thing we paid for was the initial setup...cuz we didn't know much when I started out..and had my LFS come out and set up my 65 gallon...complete waste of money there...I think we easily doubled my startup cost there...but the tank/setup was my bday surprise present at the time...so my sig. other chose that option...

The second highest expense has been the LR..and then the VHO lights...

Three 175W MH lights and bulbs very costly. And I want to add to them in the form of LED's and a 72" VHO Blue Actinic

Thats a tough one and I agree with szidls. Its expensive all the way around if you ask me. You spend alot of money getting the tank ready and then once its ready it costs alot to stock it. Its addicting....lol

Lets see- 70lbs. live rock @ $7.00, 50lb. sand @$2.00lb. , about $400 for my tank and stand , $400.00 for lighting, $200.00for my Ehiem filter , $200.00 for a protien skimmer plus refractometer , chemicals, heaters ,lids ,test kits , ground probes , fish- yes I'd have to say the most expensive thing over the years was the coral!

That is a very tough one… single most expensive purchase would have to be the lights
Coral life retrofit MH and an Ice VHO with bulbs and fittings somewhere around 800 bucks

LR hands down. 42 lbs at $8.99 (cured) and 52 lbs at $5.99 (cured) = $689 + tax. So far!

I'm not sure if this counts, but my generator was about $600. That thing is really a life saver during power outages. Besides that, its pretty close between my rocks and lighting. Both are about $300...rocks might be a bit more...
