We call these science projects. We get them the store in every week or two when we buy a "leather frag pack" even when we specify NO NON-PHOTOSYNTHETICS like we did this week. We got three of them today and put them in a very dark sump. I brought the last one we got home because it didn't look like it was going to make it in the shop. I target fed it cyclop-eeze in the morning and coral frenzy at night. It made it and was beautiful (pink, purple and yellow) until I went out of town for three days and my house sitter only fed the tank once every day. It fell apart and triggered all out chemical warfare in my tank. We may donate the ones we got today but they are NOT coming to my house!!!!! My candy cane is bleached, my open brain is bleached, my kenya tree started dropping babies in self defense (I think I syphoned all of those out) and all of my zoas were closed up. Thank God I run carbon, could you imagine if I didn't? Anyway, all is almost back to normal, except my candy cane and brain haven't gotten their color back. It is a leather of sorts and when leathers get stressed, look out!

Hopefully you have better luck than I did.

Ehhh... that last post makes me a little weary.

We have about 3 different LFS's, and it seems that none of them can really be trusted. I know everyone on here says never trust a LFS, but damn, 3 of them and they all are shady.

Should I continue to keep this coral in here and see if it makes it? Or should I pull it out so that it doesnt launch "chemical warfare" on the rest of my tank?

try pinching it between to small rocks in the sand at the bottom. rubber bands sometimes you get it to tight and it will cut it into. and cut the (bottom) off a plastic water bottle and when you feed cover with bottle so that the mouth pc. is sticking up and the cut off part is in the sand and then useing a syringe or turkey baster, liquid feeding tube squirt the liquid live phytoplankton into the mouth pc. of the water bottle. you can also screw the cap on if you like. i would, and leave it there for 1hr. or so that so you can feed it heavy. i feel that the 1st. 10 years is all experamental any way good luck again keep on reefing

Here's a better picture of the little piece of coral itself.

I have it inside of an empty shell with a rubber band around it holding it in (not too tight as to cut it in half)
