Going to buy a new pump for my tank...this little giant pump is just WAY TOO LOUD!...Was wondering what the quietest best brand of pump is. Would like it to be quiet, energy efficient, and move at least 1300GPH... Bring ur suggestions and experience please

Reeflo Dart. Very quiet and energy efficient. I can barely hear it running.

those darts are rated at like 3600gph!

Iwaki's are pretty quiet, but the best way to make them dead silent is to remove the fan on the motor shaft and install a CPU fan instead.

i frequent a fish room with 4 iwakis running. The sound is noticeable but even with 4 it is quieter than some other pumps i have heard.

Ive never heard one with a cpu fan instead, but if pickupman says it, then i believe it ;)

It is a MOD done to them. the bulk of the noise out of those style pumps will come from that fan on the back. take it off and then put the shield back on. then attach a 4" cpu fan to the back of the shield and have it blow air across the pump instead. those fans can be extremely silent. I have also seen folks drill out the center of a processor heatsink and fit that over the shaft with a fan attached.

I tested it on my Genx and it was dead slient afterwards.

Since I only have actual experience with a Dart, that's what I posted about. :p

The new models can be converted between the Snapper and Dart models.

I have not got to use it yet, but I was told great things about how quiet poseidon pumps are, so I got one. I don't think it has/needs a fan.
