What is this Coral?

    If it is a type of hard coral it could to both. If it is star polyps on a stem then they will spread from the bottom.

    Well I did a google image search for "star polyps" and they didn't look like gsp but some other sort but the "stem" was horizontal on a rock.

    yup looks like briareum, usually comes out of the caribbean

    That is an encrusting gorgonian.They are a pretty cool coral.Hardy.

    Well thank you all so much! My wife gives me an allowance (lame i know) but i went to my LFS and for the price of 1 coral this combo rock had three small types ('shrooms, zoas, and this guy) So i bought it, everything is doing quite well. I paid like $30 for the combo rock so i guess it was a decent deal for a LFS.

    yeah but i get away with extra :) I just bought $1000 worth of equipment off of FosterandSmithaquatics.com because I told her she could replenish that with my tax return. Ha ha ha. I have several expensive hobbies and she hates it!!!
