What is this mushroom doing?

Anyone want to play along? It started to pulse, then the edges closed up and the mouth (?) opened up and got opaque white and enlarged. Nothing has come out of it, and nothing is in it that I can see.

 

It's eating something

How big is that mushroom? Very nice looking. I would have guessed it to be a mini anem.

 

i have those.wait till it splits.you will think its dead lol.the mouth opened up till it was a big hole.i could see 2 inches of rock through the mouth before it split .

 

I have one of these and I will tell you.. Beware when it does that around your fish. Especially if you have clowns. Clowns with think it it trying to give them a hug and then... GULP.. No more clown.. I bought two true percs last week that were in my tank 3 days before they became a late night snack. It's one of my favorite pieces in the tank.. They will do what you have pictured here and also close making a balloon shape.

those are not the same mushrooms.they will eat fish.the ones the thread starter bbsbliss has are lavender frilly mushrooms and they will not eat live fish.here are some better photos of the safe mushrooms.
