My tank has begun to develop this white. Almost dirt looking stuff because of wherre it is. Can anyone tell me if its some sort of algae or something bad? Its on my live rocks and everything. The pic is just one of my sea shells. My only fish in my 45 gallon tank is 2 true perculas and a rose bubble tipped anenome. [IMG]

You sure it isnt actually dirt? How long has the tank been up and did you rinse the substrate when you added it? It could just be small particles of substrate that accumulate with the water circulation/ dead spots. I have one spot in my tank that does that.

I thought I rinsed it pretty well. Its just that my tank doesn't have many dead spots.

Definitely sounds like settled fine particles. It should slow down once your biofilm establishes in the sand.

It doesnt necessarily mean you have a dead spot. The circulation itself will pick it up. It's just has to land somewhere.

    +1 to all the above.

I've found CC to be relatively difficult to get clean- as long as you keep stirring it, the pebbles continue rubbing together and creating more dust.

You can use a turkey baster to blast it off the rocks etc occasionally. Eventually it will all settle back into the substrate and/or get pulled out by the filter or overflow.
