Its like an underwater centipede. I just bought some copapods, that's why the pieces of filter are there, and now tonight I found a couple of these things. It is about 2 inches long.

+1 on bristle worm. Trap it, or get it with tweezers.

Looks like a bristle worm. Don't touch it. They move the sand to a slightly greater extent than do snails and crabs, as they go deeper.

I've had these over the years, and they never seemed to do my tank any harm.

Their centipede-like legs are deceptively painful, as they have cactus like bristles, but they're finer than a human hair. Each "leg" is a mass of hundreds of stingers. If you get a bunch of these in your skin, you will hurt for a week or more. Infections, swelling and gnashing of teeth are all part of the deal.

Buddy, I've been stung a lot. Just put on some rubber gloves you get from wal mart, powder less, non latex, get some tweezers/tongs, small enough that you can grab em'. Then just toss em away. I like to keep my numbers under 6 in my tank.

I'm not saying they don't sting, but I think alot of depends on your sensitivity. I've been nailed 3 time in the last 2 weeks and felt no more than a wool or fiberglass itch. But then again not all brain cells are working so I might just be numb;D
