    Inwall, I think you accidentally had the right combination in the Tank O' Crap. Deep sand bed plus lots of phyto & rarely cleaned should have meant lots of microzooplankton & organic particles for food.

    One thing that very cool about these is that they're are bioluminescent when disturbed. Sometime at night with the lights out try gently stroking it with a stick & see what happens.
