What is this?

It's in a friends tank, he's unsure of what it is. He says it has a mouth and closes up around food if he drops some near the mouth which led me to believe it was an anemone of some type. Then he sent the picture and I tought it looked more like a plate but I know my plate doesn't close around food. So what do you think?

 

I believe it is a mushroom so to speak, possibly a type of Rhodactis, closely related to anemones.

It's tentacles are too short to be a plate, and a plate has a hard skeleton.

 

It could be an anemone or a mushroom hard to tell without a straight on shot.

 

It looks a bit like both . . . that would be a really unique mushroom!!!

+1 on rhodactis mushroom. I have one in my tank that looks very similar....called a purple frilly mushroom...
