    what type of alage is this? is it harmful or natural? the little dots sorta look like little snails but stick off the glass

    Looks like cyanobacteria to me, pretty darn common.

    Do you have any current values for nitrates and phosphates?

    What is your water source?

    Are the little white dots circular like a spirobis worm? Google image search will likely fix the spelling for me. They are harmless, but usually a sign that you have too much particulates in your water, they are filter feeders and bloom in dirtier water. If you have them, it might help to check your mechanical filtration to see if you can improve it a bit.

    Hard to tell from the pics what consistency it is. If it's a red color and smooth/slimy then cyano. If it's more of a rust brown color and powdery looking then diatoms.
