Last week I noticed a white disc shaped plaque of some sort on the back glass of my tank. It is directly behind some star polyps. A few days ago it looked like it was gettting goose bumps. Today it definately has goose bumps and is starting to turn a little purple.

Is this some new star polyps growing on the glass or what do you think it is? I have quite a bit of star polyps in my tank. This morning I noticed that a new one has started growing on the back of the tank glass.

    Just wondering  :-/

It's the green star polyps spreading up your glass. It'll look really cool once it spreads and it's easy to peel off and trade when you have too much :)

    Thanks amcarrig!

I thought maybe that was the deal but I didn't want it to start spreading and then find out it was something bad. I didn't know star polyps could start growing on the glass like that. I've only been doing this for a few months so everything is pretty new and exciting for me.

Green star polyps can grow on just about anything, even sand! Some people have problems with them overgrowing everything in their tanks so try to keep the little buggers in check :)

Thanks birdlady! ;D I'm trying. Once I decide on the dimensions I have a guy in Dallas that's going to build a sump for me . He has just installed a 280 gl tank in his home and is in need of some corals etc. I think he may make a trip down here and take some of the star polyps, button polyps and a couple of other things. At least I hope he will. If not I've told my LFS they can have some and they have given me some rocks to put them on. I tried to glue a loose ricordia mushroom on a rock but it wont stay put. Any ideas since I've never done this before? (krazy glue)

Ricordia will slime up when you touch them so using glue to attach them won't work. What I do is cut the bottom off of a pop bottle and clean it well with diluted vinegar. Cover the bottom of the container with small pieces of live rock and drop in the ricordia polyp(s). I then place the container on the sand in a low flow area of the tank and wait a few weeks for the frag to attach. You'll also want to cut some small holes in the side of the container so that water can flow through.

    Thanks amcarrig!

I'll look around and see what I have here. I guess a water bottle would work o.k. I also read somewhere else where they suggested after placing it on a rock to wrap wedding veil type material around it and secure it with a rubber band.

Your right about the slime. It kind of surprised me that there was so much.

    Great idea!--Thanks!

A small water bottle would work perfectly :)

I've never used the wedding veil material but from what I've read, it seems to work pretty well.
