    Okay guys, I like all of the options. Thanks Curt for whatever you did. I took that picture on a white paper towel thinking it would let the "whatever" show up better. Guess I better give up my 2nd job as a photographer, eh? This stuff is actually a lot like a gummy bear in consistency, obviously some type of algae. Maybe if I can figure out how to get a better pic I will try again. Thanks anyway.

    find a small white bowl, put some tank water in it, then try to photograph it again. It will probably be clearer.
