I saw this in my new tank. I purchased a 55 gallon tank this week end and moved it. During the rock transfermation i saw this. Looks like some type of anenome. Is it good or bad? Keep em or wave bye bye? It is about as big around as mu thumb.

It could also be a cup coral of some type. Could you put it in a shallow dish with some tank water for a top-down shot?

I can try this evening and will post a pic then. One thing I do know is that the foot has good holding power and it moved around until it found a spot it likes. Been pretty cool to watch.

If it is a cup coral what does it eat. Filter feeder? Or does it like meaty stuff? I know it is tuff to say untill I get a top down shot.

If it's a cup coral then the white part will be a hard skeleton. If that part is soft like an anemone then I'd look somewhere else. If it is a cup coral (which comes on FL live rock often) I've target fed mine brine shrimp. They'll extend clear tentacles and catch the shrimp if they're in range.

    Mine look like this

I'm not sure if this is the exact one but something similar.

I hope this works for a top down shot to help with ID. Also top is not hard but soft

Is the bottom hard? If it is, it's not an anemone of any sort that I'm aware of. Does it respond to touch by inflating/deflating? I have no idea what it is, but it looks like it may be bleached unless that white is its natural coloring.

Both the top and bottom are soft. the bottom (the foot???) can hold on to something smooth if it wants to. The top will contract slightly when touched.
