What is this

Its growin all over my friends tank. It even has some form of feathers coming out the tips.

That heater is out of the water so they look a little strange because the ends are stuck together where they are normally fanned out. They are scypha sponges, harmless filter feeders. A good sign that the tank is doing well.

I would remove those from the heater since they are likely dead (sponges die when removed from water)... so they don't foul up the system.
