I did opposite with slight overlap. It depends on the macro you want to grow in your fuge. The 24 hour photoperiod offers a line of defense against sporulation from different species. Caulerpa, for instance, is a popular macro that goes "sexual" and shanks the tank. Chaetomorpha algae has low chance of sporulation and can handle any photoperiod. Some plants require sleep to use their absorbed light in the photosynthesis process and some use light as it is available. The gist of sporulation is, basically, the plant freaks out and in a last attempt at survival, release everything including gametes, stored nitrates, and phosphates.

I have run mine 24/7 since I put it in. been in for several months. I have never had an issue with PH, and it did work to reduce my nitrates to zero. No more GHA or any algae in my DT. My fuge is in the center of my sump with skimmer on the left and return on the right using cheato, 3inches of sand and LR rubble.

I have both Caulerpa and Cheato growing in my fuge and I run my fuge light on a reverse schedule with 15 mins overlap. After reading some of these replies about macros going "sexual", do I need to reconsider my schedue? I don't have that much Caulerpa, it was growing in my DT and I moved it to my fuge where it seems to be doing well...should I just get rid of it?
