    What, exactly, is it?

Just after reading the first few pages of this guide (I haven't read the whole thing yet admittedly). It seems like it would cost alot of money over the long term... Seems like it would be better to use standard issue macro algaes to remove the nitrates then try and absorb ammonia... Otherwise whats the purpose for our LR and such?! :p

Edit: I retract my previous statement, after overviewing the entire system it seems that it would provide many benefitial things. However it still seems expensive, as suppliments could do the same things @ less frequency.

Ive seen tanks on that system and they look terrifec, and it looks expensive...

is it all about managing the carbon?

and what is with vodka dosing?

people use it to max out coral color growth in high end sps. here is a good summary:

So What Is A Low Nutrient Aquarium? - World Wide Reefers

it seems that some nutrients stick around, my zeovit customers aren't few and far between and they have some serious algae problems. they do have some sweet looking coral, but if you drop 10k on a tank, it better look sweet, right? :)

-it was explained to me, (and I am a bit skeptical), that those people running Zeovit with algae are just doing it wrong, and need to change their dosing regimens. That might be true, but I think algae is just something that happens, Zeovit, vodka etc...they all seem to get algae at some point.

waste of money? this whole hobby is if you want to get down to it, those people who enjoy running zeovit like it, and enjoy the dosing and the calculations, it brings them a challenge and consumes time. so, i guess what is a waste and what is necessary come down to value decisions. i say, if you are having fun with the hobby, then it is money well spent. But could you run a system without it? of course. Can you run a system with it? apparently.

It does cost a bit of money but there are some amazing looking tanks out there running with the system so it depends what your budget is and if you want to put the time/effort into running the system.

It's been around for quite some time and it's pretty well established, lots of people with experience and stuff.
