what kind of coral is this? please help

    I cropped it for ya... I do see a bunch of hair algae behind it...........:confused:[​IMG]

    looks more like star polyps to me.

    it could be a type of xenia.most have tall stocks but some like blue xenia just grow in small hands that cover rocks like in that photo.star polyps grow from a purple mat that you can see when the green hands retract.

    Encrusting gorgonian. Something to keep an eye on as it can become a bit of a nuisance and take over your rock.

    I posted on your other thread, thats Anthelia aka Waving Hand Coral. Its a soft coral, grows like a weed in the right conditions. Its also in the Xenia family, some people call it encrusting xenia, but its really Anthelia sp.

    Its okay if your tank is new and you have no corals. But it grows very fast and can cover your rocks and become a problem in time. It comes in very often on Carib live rock.
