Hi I am new here and I knew this would be the forum to come to for my questions. I noticed a while back when I had bought this giant piece of Florida Gulf rock, that something was living in a hole... Never could find out what it was until today, I had this crab/the rock for a few months. I also knew the Anemones were on the rock already, but I asked my LFS dude and he told me they weren't Aiptasia Anemones or any other bad ones. They look like Majano Anemones to me, but I'm not for sure... The crab almost looks like a Hairy European Crab, I doubt it though. I thought it was a baby Emerald Crab before, but it has a larger pincher and the claws are not shaped the same.

Nem's look like some pretty good sized aiptasia to em.. No idea on the crab. I don't think it's an emerald either, they're usually at least a littlee bit green. I'm actually trying to name an unknown crab I've had living in my xenia since who knows when, so I hope someone has a little more info for ya!

    +1 on the aipsasia nems.

My rule of thumb with crabs is 95% of them are trouble...if you have caught this one don't put it back, LOL!

We get tons of crabs in from the stock we get that is maricultured...I pick them off and put them in an area of my sumps that has sand and rock...I don't ever take a chance with them in the rest of my tanks.

    Looks like aiptasia to me.
Not sure on the crab, maybe google xanthid or look here and see if you find it.

Oh, and start taking what your LFS dude tells you with a grain of salt, of course he's going to say it's not bad when he's trying to make money off of you LOL.

Thanks, the Xanthid looks sorta like it, I kept it in a plastic Container, I don't killing stuff so maybe I can bring him back to the Reef shop. I'll be purchasing some Peppermint Shrimp now lol. Hopefully they will take on these big Aiptasias. Thanks guys, I'll post pics of my reef when I feel its looking good enough. :)

I think the peppermints don't usually eat the larger aiptasia.

Lol I could give the Nems the Crab for food, and then kill the Nems. That might be overkill though. :p I have seen peppermint shrimp eat larger ones, on youtube. If it doesn't work, they can work on the tiny ones while I shoot the others... Never had these in my 30 gal. I trade corals and stuff with my LFS guys, but the one who sold me the rock I never really talked to before. Bastard.
