Anybody know what's the name of these crabs? Are they safe to put in a FO aquarium? Found in Hawaii.

Im not sure about what kind they are. Judging from the pointed claws I would say not reef safe.
Not to sounds rude but, What are you doing taking wild animals from their homes into yours anyway?

Umm...went fishing and the water from the tidepool we were holding our catch made it's way into our bucket along with these crabs. Not to be rude but, isn't our whole hobby taking things from the wild and putting into our tanks? I'm sure we all don't have exclusively tank raised animals.....

Im not saying that we all exclusively own CB livestock and that no one is allowed to have WC livestock.
I was just hinting that normally a license is required in order to take creatures out of their natural habitat.:-/

Ok, you should just say it straight out instead of beating around the bush. I do have what they call a "Recreational Aquarium Permit" which is free here and allows personal collection of aquatic life.

But back to the topic, anybody know the type?

Dont think it should be your business unless you work for peta. If thats the case then you cant own an aquarium or a pet for that matter.

Sorry not sure what crab it is but just wanted to back you up

I cant id the crabs but if its a FO aquarium and the fish are large I dont see a problem. I would definitly keep an eye on them though. K+ for having a permit also.

Unfortunately it's really hard to ID crabs there are hundreds of types. Colour and markings are not reliable as crabs tend to camouflage themselves. But judging by the pointy claws those crabs are meat eaters and as stated above will be predators of anything they feel they can eat

Thanks all for your comments/suggestions. I think I may just return these to the tidepool. The smallest fish I have is about 1", and these crabs are tiny, like maybe 1/2" & 1/4" incld legs but may be more of a hassle to remove once it get's bigger. Thanks again all!
