Yeah, from what I've gathered the deep sand bed can be located in your sump or about anywhere the flow is adequate. (Which it would be)

I'm not knowledgeable enough to answer your frag tank question. Not sure which is more desirable....drain from display to frag to sump. Or sump to frag to sump. I don't know much at all about corals yet. :-/

Hardwood 2x4 is major overkill for a tank your size. My 90gal DT is made of hardwood, but even that isn't 2x4 construction. It is overall on how it is built.. You can build a bridge out of balsa wood & drive across with a car, again it's all on how it is built..

Your welcome. This stand was built in my fish room out if pine 2x4. The framing that is, except the 4x4 legs that are pressure treated. They were outside for 4 years, so there were weathered very well. Plus I wanted a wood that could take being exposed to water on the floor.

The top is 5/8" faced plywood with about 10 coats of outdoor urethane.

I like the look of the outdoor urethane. I might have to do something like that!

I built mine out of the cheap 2x4's at lowes. I used a stain that has polyurethane in it and stained it inside and out.

I built mine out of 2x4s and 2x6 from Lowe's. It is very strong and very heavy.

The stand for my 29g will be built using vertical grain, 3/4" ply wood. I am going to glue 2 layers together, but that is not necessary. I will be doing some funky stuff to the wall panels so that's why I am making them thicker. When I build the stand you'll now why I am doing this. lol.

2x6 for a 29gal????? OMG didn't want to go anywhere huh. LOL. I could park my truck on it and it wouldn't even buckle.

No problem, word to the wise, fill in the counter sunk screws first. I thought the urethane would just fill it. Not the case, the urethane would soak right in. I finally had to use 1min cure epoxy to fill in the heads, then urethane after that.
