I have a small aiptasia problem that I would like to take care of before it gets out of control. Instead of adding chemicals I would rather just add some livestock to take care of it. My tank is a reef tank so these fish/inverts have to be reef friendly too....any suggestion of what kinds of fish/inverts I could add that would eat the aiptasia??

    Thanks

Some peppermint shrimp will eat them, make sure you get lysmata wurdemanni though, not other shrimp that look similar, like the camel shrimp. Copperband butterflies do as well.

2 that come to mind are peppermint shrimps and berghia nudibranches.

berghia nudibranches. i would buy it and when i see no more aiptasia give it a couple of days and then return it back to the lfs. or a really good idea i heard was keep a rock full of aiptasia in the fuge and swap the rock out to keep him fed since thats all they eat

Peppermints, Copper banded butterflys nudibrances(but they are VERY hard to keep alive) CBB are also tricky to get to eat

Any of the above suggestions would work. But here's the thing - a squirt of Joe's Juice into each aiptasia, and your problem is pretty much solved. Any of the animals that eat aiptasia will have to be fed and maintained after the aiptasia is gone, and that may not prove easy, or even possible. But my syringe of Joe's Juice does very well and requires little maintenance sitting in a drawer in my desk ;)

IMO using joes jucie is only a temp fix, they 99% of the time come back.

Whether or not they come back depends on a lot of things. It is possible that they reproduced before you squirted them. Or it is possible that you didn't inject the juice into their mouths. But if you do it properly, it should work. Worst case scenario, if it comes back squirt them again.

I stand by what I said earlier - any animal you buy with the express purpose of eating aiptasia may be a pain in the neck to maintain once the aiptasia is gone.

I like the idea of Joe's Juice, but I've found that white wine vinegar works just as well and is alot cheaper :)
