without getting into a really technical discussion (i know its hard). what length sump would be a good idea under a 90 gallon.

i know bigger is better but here is what i am thinking about

trying to decided between a 24 in (like a 20 high) sump
    or a 30 inch (20 long, or 29)

what i am worried about is that all my equipment must be contained in the stand. so i am looking to have enough room under the tank for things other then a sump such as:

RO top of water supply container (maybe 5 gallons??)
possible 2 part jugs with dosers or CA reactor
    Carbon/and or GFO reactor(s)

i just think the extra 6 inches of space in the stand my warrant considering a smaller sump.

what do you think?? i may be crazy for thinking i could get any/all of that under a 48 in stand

yeah thats what i am kinda leaning torward. its funny how hung up i am about getting a BIG sump so i can have a fuge section. but currently my 55 has NO sump or fuge and i use tap water. i have 0 NO3. i do have some (.5ppm at times) phospates but i am convinced a RO/DI will fix that.

anyone know how large the GFO/carbon reactors are from bulk reef supply. would the hang behind a 12 inch wide sump in a 90 gallon stand???

The rodi would definitely help on your phosphates. Don't know about the reactor. If the stand's back is open you could place the sump at the back and let the reactor hang in back if need be.

Hang the reactor on the back of the sump and through the opening in the back of the stand if there is one and it is of sufficient size. This could provide you with a little more storage area.

ok i gotcha. that might work.......actually i think that would be a really good idea. i could slide the sump as far forward as possible.

thanks. plus that way it would feed back into the skimmer section, shich would be good for bubbles. i had it pictured in my head feeding into pump return section

Longer is always better than taller, it not only gives you more room for equipment it also provides more surface area for oxygen transfer and aeration.

Yeah, I'm just worried about running out of space for stuff that won't be "in" the sump
