I have the outer orbit 48" with 2 150 watt mh and 2 130 watt pc. i bought it used for 200.00 but all lights where burnt out. i did get 2 150 watt 14k mh bulbs and thats all im only using now. i like the hint of blue it gives but if i go with 2 130 watt dual actinics will it make it all an ugly blue and be bad for the corals? what bulbs do you suggest i get. i hate to spend another hundred for another set of mh's. what would be the perfect combo? and then what would be good with the mh's i got? next is 10k brighter and crisper then 14k even though they are the same watts?

The straight actinic will do a better job along with the 14,000 K bulbs -Also depending on the brand of bulb all bulbs are not created equal the brand name really matters.

You really should try and go somewhere that has a bunch of different bulbs in use and see what you like. K rating is strictly personal preference for most. And as Tangster said, not all bulbs with the same K rating are the same. I know people who liked the 14K in X bulb but then bought a 14K Y bulb and couldn't stand it and vice versa.

The higher the K rating the bluer the light. I personally love 10K reeflux bulbs with vho actinics in the 250w rating. But then I have 400w 10K reeflux which doesn't need any actinics IMO to make it look pleasing to me.

Really, it's such a broad question. No one can answer for you unfortunately. They can only relate what they prefer.
