How bigs the tank? depth is important here

what do you want to keep?

having the extra 54 watt tubes would be good as it enables you to do actinic lamps and have a dawn / dusk type situation rather than full on/ full off

I agree with steve about the VHOs. But it really does depend on what size tank you have and what you want to keep.

well of the 2 choices given I would go 2 x 250 with the tubes

but with a 72 inch long tank 3 MHS would be better IMO

That makes a difference - 2 x MH would be ideal on a 48 IMO

I still like the 250 watts as its 22 inch deep
and those supporting tubes as stated are great for dawn dusk scenario creating

I would like the 2 250's also. 22 inches is a little deep IMO for 150's but depending on the ballast bulb combination, they could be made to work.
