It is always a good idea, but at least plan on it. If you take it slow and don't overload your tank you can do without for a while. Trust me you'll be adding more then you thought in no time. Alot will dedpend on your filter if you are going to wait on a skimmer.

What filter are you thinking about. I don't know if ithe tank is big enough but I ran a 55 gallon for years of an eheim wet dry, They run around $220 but have a "wavemaker" type spray bar that helps keep the circulation good.

If you run a canister filter make sure you Keep it cleaned out every few days to once a week!!! they can build lots of nitrates if you dont. . . . as far as the skimmer like everyone said you could do without untill your budget allows for it as long a u keep your bio load small but start planning on getting one.

If your going to by two power heads and that 220 I would consider spending the extra $50 on the eheim. It is a much more simple pump with one substrate. Have to lock it down and clean it out every 6-8 months but I ran that alone on a 55 for years. I did eventually add powerheads since the live rock was impeding some of the flow. I've never been big on the closed cannisters. Not sure how enough oxygen gets in there for the bacteria. The only one that I have seen with the third inlet(for air) is the eheim, and like I said I ran a 55 for 5 years with just that. LFS had a beatuful 75 gal they ran with one two and it was loaded.
