In the mid-ninties, I had a 29g tank that I kept nicely stocked only because I kept buying fish....They would die, I would buy. I was a terrible aquarist. When the tank had it's final crash, I thought that someday I would take it up again and do it right, just not right then. Opportunity came one year ago, exactly in fact.... I have done much better this time around.

Well my father got me into it. We had a gold fish tank years ago, but he has been wanting a salt water tank since he was 20... he is now 48 and has his tank. I really only got into it when he brought the tank home and I fell in love. I think I am more into it than he is! I do way more research (3reef) thats for sure.

 That was me! I hate to think of how many guppies we had crammed into a 10 gallon! I didn't even have to buy - they reproduced! Constantly! We went through this viscious (and I mean viscious) cycle of buying guppies, baby guppies, cannibal guppies, repeat! After the last guppy was gone, I went back to tetras. I still have this GIANT silver dollar tetra in the 10 gallon. We've had him for years.

Here he is: Big Fishy (Jwin can't stand Big Fishy)

I grew up on the beach also. Good 'ol Pacific Ocean in Carlsbad/Oceanside CA and Baja. My mom was pretty lax on rules and I was allowed to go anywhere pretty much. I always found my self at the beach fishing, snorkeling, boating, sailing etc........ I was always there every day. Still love to be on/around water whenever I get the chance. I have never had a freshwater tank persay. Betta bowl or two. I've always owned saltwater tanks. Been in the hobby for 10+ years. I got into the hobby from managing a Petco many years ago.

for me i have had fresh water my hole life and truthfully have gotten kinda of board from it, and also want to have some really nice looking fish...i have done the discus the huge cichlids, piranhas, the hard core fresh water plant tank and all that in between. Another one for me was ppl would come over to my house and ask me why don't i put a lion fish or a puffer fish in the tank and would have to explain that this isn't that kinda tank(i had puffer but the dwarf that i have need seen puff up). so i decided to start saltwater tank and found that i really want some fish that need a much larger tank so i am now starting my second saltwater tank.

Grrr. I hate big fishy. He bugs my ickle goldfish :D Our tetra tank is whack :loco: And it always seems that we care very little for the freshwater fish, almost neglecting them, doing a water change maybe twice a year, and feeding them every day. And that's it. And yet, they still manage to live double their expected lifespans hahaha :D

I had all kinds of fresh water tanks up until the early 90s,was partial to angel fish, at one point had a snake head tank, then went to salt water had about 6 saltwater tanks (fish only) since then about 3 years ago decided to get into corals.

it was bassically the colors saltwater tanks are always vibrant in color compared to fresh.
I still miss having a freshwater tank.

Let's see, how did those uninvited ickle gollfish get in there in the first place? Last summer, Jwin was on a turtle rescue mission. I think we had 3 on the back deck in a kiddle pool at one time, including some snapping turtle thing....So, to feed his turtles, Jwin was buying feeder fish and throwing them in the kiddie pool. When it was time to release the turtles (as in winter coming), he was getting ready to empty the pool and found these 2 poor little feeder goldfish hiding. So, he throws them in my tetra tank - no acclimation, nothing. Fast forward 9 months later, and I still have his ickle goldfish!

I'll be stuck with those things for 20 years?????? With my luck, they'll live 40. I can take them to the nursing home with me...
