Freshwater wasn't enough. When I saw my first clownfish in person I knew I had to have it.

That and the fact that I went diving in the great barrier reef. I wanted to bring nature home.

I just wanted something other than a TV to stare at for hours. Who would've knew the severity of the addiction. I now stare at aquarium stuff more than my TV. I really did it so that friends and family would have something to look at when visiting and for my amusement.

Its also nice to know that I made that little eco system in my room. Kinda rewarding.

The thought of fish had fascinated me since around 4 years old. I've always had a freshwater tank or two in the house but I thought that I would try out a saltwater tank and hoped that i got lucky.... Well, what do you know? Mine's doing great! (Even though it's only about a month old8))

I'm embarrassed to say it as it has a lot of negativity in the reef world...but I wanted a tank after watching the show tanked. I've always wanted a nice saltwater tank but never put too much thought into it. After I saw the show I started doing some research and it turned into an addiction from there. We started out looking at a 14g biocube and ended up getting a 65g which 2 months later we transferred to a 125g.

    I had several FW tanks.

    I started Scuba around age 17. 1977.

Then, about 16 years ago, I started my own 30g SW tank using NO LFS, or any purchased materials, fish, salt, etc.
I caught all my own livestock-using a 'slurp gun', net, scoring seaweed floatsome, etc. I did all my water changes using NSW- from the Boynton Inlet to the ICW in Boynton FL.

    Moved and gave it away.

Fast forward to 2011, I started a 125g Reef about 8 months ago.

You can see a very recent vid of it in my sig. Thanks

Always had fresh tanks as a child & a couple as an adult. I was dating a guy who somehow got sucked into the hobby, and I would look at all the stuff in his tank. For my birthday one year he bought me a 3 gallon Eclipse with live sand & water in it. I watched that tank for 2 weeks all excited about all the little things I was seeing in the sand. Then he got me a few pounds of live rock and there were MORE little things. I was hooked & it was all the hitchhikers' fault LOL. Inverts fascinate me and IDing everything became an obsession.

Noticed that alot of people are in Ohio.Awesome stories.I love the fact that my 4 year old son loves going to the pet store with me.WE recently donated a foxface, trigger, and porcupine puffer to our local aquarium. In return the gave us a behind the scenes personal tour of their tanks. They let him climb on their 1000 gallon shark tank and they lifted the top so he could see the sharks swimming a foot away from him. Then their 120# moray eel swam up and poked its head out at him. Those moments like that make me glad that I got into the hobby!Just the looks of fascination.

    Easy, Finding Nemo....

I can't believe that hasn't been mentioned yet! lol jk. I had tanks before the movie. I've always been calmed by the water, so like many here have said, I was just kind of drawn to it. Then after I had one, chicks always dug it so that solidified it for me lol.
