When I first started (with a 3 gallon tank), the term "nano" was just being coined. At that time it was 10 gallons and under (I also had a 10 gallon). Now that I've come back to the hobby, 30 and under seems to be a nano.

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
    Nope.

It was the manufactures, like nano cube. Nothing scientific about it that I know of. When nanos first came out tanks were sold in categories. To brand the first picos picos and such they went by gallons. A lot of manufactures ie: Nanocube, Oceanic (bio-cube), Aquapod called all their tanks under 30 gallons nanos. Then came the desk top picos. You can call them what you want other than a big tank. :)

I've been tempted to set up a dry tank with dead, bleached SPS skeletons (maybe painted with flourescent spray paints) and call it a Necro-reef.

i dont know, compared to alot of the tanks i do, a 30 gallon tank is large, i would not consider a 30 gallon tank a nano, but like vinny said if you have a 400 gallon tank then a 75 gallon tank would be small.

..so to an 18 wheel, big rig owner, my Ford f-350 diesel... is a compact....got it.....individual perception. LOL..;D ...but really, nano is larger than a pico and smaller than a micro..it is a factual size of measurement...not perception...size does matter...LOL
