Most likely a faulty piece of equipment would zap you or give you that tingling feeling. You can make a grounding probe as well out of a titanium bicycle spoke and some stainless steel wire and heat shrink. Theres another thread somewhere on here, i`ll try and find it. I`m sure it will be fine when you remove the source of your stray voltage

Some Pictures! The first is 10 days ago, when it split in two and the second is today.

When hubby got home he checked the tank with a meter. We had quite a bit of stray current so we started checking equipment. I promised him I would wait until he got home. The only thing we could figure out is I got a new light this week for the refugium and the fuse was loose and the light would just flicker. I run the light on a timer all night, so when I got up this morning I wouldn't have noticed. He fixed the fuse, turned it on and then tested again, it barely registered any voltage at all.

The refug is a HOB, 2.5 gallon but the light is on the same strip (light timer) with the PC fixture. Could that be what fried my crab?

The xenia, as you can see in the picture, is standing up better. This morning all the polyps were laying completely over to one side.

Would be my first guess, that stray current is no good! Glad you fixed the problem and sorry about the crab!

inverts are super sensitive to stray voltage, be happy you dont have an anemone or any super expensive inverts

Glad you found the problem though, still buy a ground probe though as it'll help to keep this from happening again in the future, the xenia will probably perk back up, it's pretty hard to kill

It's matters not whether your fingers tingle after you've been in the tank, but WHILE in the tank. A shock is not a post water function.

Home Depot and others sell plug-in GFI's. While a ground probe is a good thing, it's better to have both as the GFI will trip on what the probe is feeling.

The Xenia is THRIVING!!! I am so proud of it!!! It stretches out when the light comes on and pulses like crazy. Looks like it will be splitting again soon too. Thanks all for the advice.

Get a probe installed and then find another LFS other then the one that feels a probe is not necessary and tell them you have seen what stray voltage will do , Its hard to actually believe there are so called smart experts out there who feel a Grnd/probe is not a good idea.. Hobby electricians you have to love them , Then I wounder what do they not know about other things they write about or sugguest ???
