I am starting a 40 gallon marine tank, which will include inverts, fish and corals. I am wondering what A good protein skimmer would be. It would be in a sump.

Unfortunately this is one of the only things (besides lights) that you don't want to skimp on. If you don't want to spend money on this hobby , maybe now is not the time to start. :-/ Good luck , keep us posted.

Cheapest skimmer I can recommend with a clear conciseness is a coralife skimmer

Alright, from the comments I see this will be one of the more expensive things on my list, but its necessary, so I will have to go buy one.

I've looked into the coral life skimmer, and I think I will probably get one of those. Heading to my LFS soon!

What is your price range? If your not dead set on supporting your LFS, you can probably get it much cheaper from marinedepot.com.

How long will it be until you need a skimmer? I am planning on upgrading soon, so I will probably be selling my Remora for steal of a deal!

I've said it before, I'll say it again:

    I'll take it! Seriously.

I don't need It immediately. Maby in a month. Right know I am just purchasing stuff, building a sump etc.

My price range. Well, lets say humble. I'm going to start of small, and very slowly build up the tank. I have enough to get it started though.
