As far back as the early 90's and Albert Thiels book, this is always the piece that everyone tells you to spend the most on. I guess if it is too big you just have to bigger tank.

Smitty said it already but don't skimp on this.

Jebo, SeaClone, ViaAqua Multi Skimmer....JUNK, I've had all three and could have had an AquaC EV 120 for what I paid all together on those pieces of JUNK and never had to buy a skimmer again! Lights and skimmer are the two things you don't want to skimp on.

I don't have a lot of experience with skimmers, but from hearing their names over and over on these boards I know what NOT to get. If cuttingras recommends the Aqua C Remora, I'd feel pretty good about getting one.

There's nothing wrong with humble. Nothing wrong with going slow. Some by financial necessity must go slower than others. Be careful of the pitfalls of this hobby--many will buy cheap to save, only to wind up spending more once their penny-pinching tactics don't pan out in the longer run.

I once had a girlfriend who was a rich spoiled woman and always said, "If you buy the best you'll never be disappointed." I disagreed with about everything she said, but I have to admit she was right on that one.

If it means no fish for 6 months then so be it. Save up and get the best protein skimmer you can. You'll NEVER look back on that purchase with regret.

    Good luck!!

Thanks for all the help. I think that I will either go with the AquaC Remora or the coral life protein skimmer.

It depends on how you set the tank up and what cycling and filtration methods you use that will decide when a skimmer is needed . I do not add a skimmer for about 4 months after I add my first fish other then the cycling fish.
