I use a new jet NJ3000, I used to have an oceanrunner 2500 but after 12 months it accidently ran dry for a few days while I was away. The spindle holding the impeller snapped and the pump burnt out.

You will definetly need a lerger pump than a mag7. I use a mag 12 on my 55 and feel it is not enough. Good pumps though. I also put mine on a mouse pad to make it a little quieter.

Alright...after seeing the opinions I am seeing the advantage of buying a bigger pump and using a gate vavle to control the flow instead of buying to small of a pump and then having to buy a bigger one in the near future. All this info on RP's is greatly appreciated guys

I have 2 marineland 5500 pumps for my returns and a mag 18 for my skimmer. I just ordered a hammerhead as im moving the sump into the basement and also ordered a new external pump for the new xl1 pm skimer I ordered. I had the marine land pumps turned down with valves when right under the tank as it was to much. I now have a plan for attack on this new setup but am trying to make it work.

For the red sea I have the sump with a mag 5 for the sump to tank. the skimmer has its own pump.

The kisd 150 fish and rock only has 2 canister filters with a hob skimmer on it.

I have a Little Giant MD4QXSC for my return. It was a little loud at first, but once broken in, is running dead quiet.

9.5 mag on my 55,works out fine with everything wide open except where it's dialed back to go to the fuge and almost silent.Been looking at pumps for the 240,which is going to be external to keep the heat out of the tank. I fear a chiller may be in the works anyway with all the mh/t5 lighting.
