I'm liking the wide variety of opinions on the pumps....I got a little bit still before I make a decision on what to buy but a energy efficient pump wouldn't hurt I guess and I am more concerned about the power of the flow as well as how quiet the pump is. I'm not to awfully worried about heat but I will be checking into the oceanrunner, eheim, mag, and rio pumps & a few more as well....this is helping out quite a bit...thanks guys I'll distribute K+ on a computer instead of on my Droid

I use a mag 7 on my 72 bowfront and its perfect. you could probably do a mag 7 but I probably wouldnt go higher than a mag 9.. I tried a mag 9 and the heat that pump puts out made my temp jump up about 5 degrees in a short time and the flow was too much in the sump. I wouldnt recommend getting a really large return pump to try to use it as flow in your tank.. it should be enough to get good flow through your sump and then you use powerheads to get the rest of the flow in the display.. what the point of buying a huge pump if you have to throttle it down ya know?

What I see some people is doing is buying a bigger pump and using a valve to keep the flow in checki but some people do this so they don't have to little flow as well as they can upgrade to a bigger system later w/o having to buy a bigger pump later. Hopefully I can get some time soon to look up all these pumps and start narrowing it down soon
