There are battery powered outlets you could use for your thermometer. I cant quite remember where to get them tho....ebay or a hardware store

if ur power goes out during the night i would just get really hot water bags put it in the water, wrap the tank in towels, and ur temp shouldnt drop that much.

    Generator. You need this.

Two things to remember is hypoxia (lack of O2) is directly related to CO2 accumulation will drive down pH as CO2 will work as an acid as it binds H ions.

And temperature is another dangerous bit.

I prefer the insurance of a generator. There are ways you can primitively keep your tank, but what if you are without power, or running water for a week?

Invest in a generator if you have the space and money or buy a UPS (uninterrupted power supply).

We run an APC 3000VA UPS which will keep the whole setup running for a little under an hour (much longer if the light and/or heater are off). It's a rackmount UPS that was intended to be rack mounted in a server cabinet, but with a custom built cabinet to keep the salt away, it does the job nicely. Assuming business goes well, a generator may be in the future for us :)
