I Agree with Raven. More Live rock will allow you to keep a larger bio load with out running into nitrate problems. And Get your nitrate problem under control via small frequent water changes

Sorry, in my last post I accidentally said that live rock does depend on light to survive. I meant to say that the bacteria in the live rock does NOT need light to survive.

I didn't realize you bought your rock at the LFS. I though you ordered it. Most places don't keep their rock in water, they just mist it. Most of the rock I ordered was bad, took forever for me to cycle.

If you ever do order any, sometimes you getter better rock when you order online, my LFS has bad rock. Make sure you cure it in a seperate container and then move it to your main tank. Even when they say cured it's uncured when you get it.

My supplier has all his rock on display in tanks, with some specimen fish in the tanks also. We went up to the place at the weekend and picked up some more for a new tank we set up, and got some nice free stuff with it. We chose the bits with loads of polyps etc. and one bit has a ricordia (we think) on it. If we ordered it by mail order, we'd not get that sort of deal. ;D

I wish I had an LFS that sold good rock. All the stuff by me is brown and dead looking. The one store that does sell ok rock, sells it for $11 a pound.

The stuff I ordered online is turning out to be really nice though. Not many things growing from it, but the coraline is spreading.

Try having a look at aquatics unlimited in greenfield. They are just north of HWY 100 and Beloit rd. I bought some LR from them a while back, nice looking stuff with loads of coaraline on it

I'll have to see if I can get out there sometime. Right now I don't need anymore rock, but when I get my new tank going I will.

    I want a 300, it's an addiction.

has anyone tried tampabaysaltwater.com they, according to their website, sell some really nice looking coral rock for $6.00 a lb with hard corals and all? I live in tampa so I might try them out when I have a additional $100 for some rock.

That was before the red tide just about killed everything in the gulf.....
They don't even open their store to the public anymore on Saturday's.
They still have a place in the keys where they harvest from, so you can still get it, just not at the low low price of $5 pound from the gulf. And I guarantee you that stuff looked a hundred times better than anything I have seen in a LFS for $11 a pound :)

Well I am upto at least 40 lbs of lr. I also added some nasarius snails (8) yesterday because I have no clean up crew and have brown algae on sand and glass. My tomato clown has been very active since I added the orbit 4x65w pc lighting and it actually seems he is attracted to it. When I stand the light on the side to move a rock in the tank or clean a glass he goes and stays near the tank. He has also made 3 beds, if you will, in the sand in different location which I find odd. I have been feeding flake (which I really want to get away from) and brine shrimp. Any food suggestions?
