what should my temp be for a reef tank

    i have a 28g nano tank and for some reason my temp gos up to 83* doring the day is this bad and what should it be at?

    78-84 is perfectly safe. my tank stays at about 80 but reaches 82 after the full lighting cycle. i have seen it go as high as 87 during the hot summer even with a big fan. but you want it consistent. you may be seeing the temp rise significantly during the day if you have a strong light on that small volume of water. try putting a small fan.

    I try to keep mine at 80. My controller usually reads about 79.6. I think the highest my temp has ever gone is 84.5.

    ok thank you i wasnt sure if this was good or bad every day for the last couple days at the end of the day it would reach 82* so i guess thats good thanks man!!!

    above 84 and I start sweating mine. thing it to keep them stable. my old tank had a 2* swing daily and all was good from what i could tell. my new one has a 1.5* swing with the controller. it is set to 81 right now and will turn on chiller when it get to 81.8 and off at 80.6. it will turn the heat on at 80.2 and off at 81.4.

    I don't think it matters to much as long as your between 75-84 degrees.

    agreed based on my pre chiller experience

    up to 84 everything seemed OK , but 85 and upwards , some corals started to refuse to open fully and looked to be doing a coral version not unlike a plant wilting

    I have only been over 85 one time when the central ac cut out for a couple days. I agree things get ugly over 85. I personally keep mine at 76-78
