You normally want a light the same length of your tank.

Are you going Fish Only, or are you wanting corals? If so, what type?

    How deep is your 125?

If under 22 inches, I would definitely look for a good T5 setup.

A 4 bulb setup would be good for so softies, leathers and LPS.
A 6 bulb setup would be good for most everything including SPS higher in the tank.
A 8 bulb setup would be good for SPS on the deck.

Unfortunately, when dealing with reef lighting, you really do get what you pay for.
Take a look at ReefGeek in our sponsor section for some top of the line models.
You can get cheaper, by far, but usually, come with cheaper reflectors and bulbs.
You can always get a cheaper unit and put better bulbs in it, but will still be outperformed by the better ones.

I would say that it is not long enough for a 125. Is it a standard 125? what are the dimensions? I would want a light that is the same length as the tank or at least very close, esp. if I was gonna try and do corals.

Typically with a 72" Tank you would want 3 X 250W metal Halide Lights with some sort of complimentary light like VHO

    Do you have a link?
For a 6ft tank, Jason's right, you will want 3 x 250w MH, I would go with double ended (HQI) rather then single ended, but that can be left up to you. If your going T5s and want a reef, I would suggest at least a 6 bulb setup. You can get two 36" setups (2 36" with 6 bulbs each) or find a 72" fixture. Lighting for that size tank is going to cost you if you want anything decent. If you do a MH retro fit kit with good reflectors, it will probably cost around $1000 (for 3 lamps), if you do T5 less, but still around $600.
