What size piping?

    My first setup 90gal. With 20 gal sump. Will be FOWLR. I have a mag 9.5 pump for the sump. What size piping should I use. I am thinking 1"

    1" will work.

    I ran a mag 9.5 on my 92 and used 1" pipe with a durso style standpipe. It handled the volume no problem.

    Thats what I use on my 100g w/ 48g sump. I found a mag12 was too much and a mag5 wasnt quite enough using 1" pvc. I also use a durso standpipe and the whole setup is extremly quiet.

    One thing to consider is what kind of return fittings you want to run. For instance, if you run lock-line, you'll need to reduce your return plumbing to 3/4" as they don't make 1" flares, nozzles, etc. This can be done at the pump or at the bulkhead (use a reducer inside the tank or on the "back end" of the bulkhead).
