Why is this info never included in the directions. I have many Maxijet 1200 pumps laying around but want to make sure that this is the rigth size.

    thanks

Just about any 100-200 gph pump should work fine.
A maxi-jet 600 does ~160 gph, so that would be fine.
The 1200 pushes about 295 gph, so that might be too much.

It all depends on what you want to kill. I have a 36 watt turbo. I just looked up the 9 watt ones. For a turbo twist 9 watt UV, to kill:

Parasites: water flow should be a max of 55 gph
algae: water flow should be a max of 121 gph
bacteria: water flow should be a max of 253 gph

My 2 cents would be a flow meter and a control valve to keep things at a good flow. If you want to control things like ICH, then you need a max of 55 gph. Also, remember that UV do NOT mess with your tank cycle. The bacteria that breakdown amonia, nitites and nitrates are not free floating in the water.
