I have a 29g that will be a reef tank. I have 2 of the Hydor Koralia Nano 425's in there for flow. Plenty of it, with no dead spots. How many gph reutn pump should i have for it? I was thinking the Ehiem 1250, at 300gph, at 0' head. But I've seen a few thread were a smaller pumps were used relative to the size of the tank... Is 10x turn-around, more than what's needed? Please explain...

Eheim 1250 will be about 160gph at 4 ft head.

Wow, how much did that pump cost? How much flow came out from a K3?

Return pumps are recommended to be 5 to 10 times the sumps volume at about 4 foot head.

OK. So I guess what I am asking is, do you think the E 1250 is too small for my tank? Or am I fine? I have not yet ordered it.

Thanks. I would like to be keeping mostly sps corals & some fish. I know Eheim has a great reputation. Certainly this Taam Rio is long-lasting, as well?

    Sorry for all the questions.

If you're wanting more SPS than LPS and softies, I would go with the bigger pump for more turnover. You can always but in a ball valve and dial it down a tad if needed.

I have been using a Quite One 2200 on my 20g mixed reef for a few years now. Very quite and zero problems.
