my 2 cents about tank size is to get the biggest one you can comfortably afford to maintain successfully.

when I upgraded from my 55g to 70g cube I took into account a bunch of things that led me to the small upgrade (rather than larger). A larger tank meant I had to make more RO/DI water for top-off, water changes. It meant I had to get new lighting & a lot more live rock and sand. Having just had a baby I knew my time wouldn't be plentiful for the tank so the minimal upgrade was perfect for me.

Though for me, I'd much rather have an awesome 70g than a pretty cool, decently maintained 125g, I"m basically all about doing things right the first time so I try to buy the best equipment I can afford so I don't have to second guess anything. So, my budget and time was perfect for the 70g.

Also remember that a larger tank will tax your wallet because you will most def want to fill it with fish and corals & that will also get expensive quick.. we all know that one :).

Hope that gives you a little more to ponder

Thanks for the replies. Well I'm going to get one probably from Craigslist as I can get more of a bundle deal. And its seems like everyone in miami has a salt water tank for sale. My main thing is this scape idea that I think would awesome here are a quick note pad drawing lol tell me what u think or if u can even understand the idea.

depending on what size you get, you'll want a deep tank to create the look of the open area surrounded by rocks. A 55g may not give you enough space for that. Maybe 75g or 90g would work, they're both the same depth. Def a cool scape idea. When you do execute it, just be sure that you are careful with the rock stacks so you don't create any pressure points on the glass that have a lot of weight pressing on one area.

Get a cube! Mine has sorta that feel of open middle area, I did a horseshoe scape that's open in the front:

how big is your tank and what kind of cube? the cube is sounding like a better idea but how big do they get.. and that means more than likely i would have to start brand new as well. witch changes cost alot lol

You can find all my tank/equipment on my build thread, it's 70g: http://www.3reef.com/forums/show-of...70g-cube-build-new-pics-vid-4-27-a-99145.html

I love my cube but also like the length of standard tanks. Sometimes you'll want more length than depth when it comes to keeping Tangs or active swimmers. The cube was perfect for my needs, budget, and space, I have zero regrets.

I have a 125 6ft long 18inches deep 22inches tall love the tank but the 4ft 150 is 4ft long 24 deep and 24or so tall way more fun to scape. If you are building a reef. I would go with the 150 if reef with some fish especially ones the like to swim back and forth longer is better. Just my 39cents.
