Can't help you with the model, but it certainly appears to be in-sump.

yea! that's what I thought, knowing the model would help me know if its a good skimmer or not, here is another skimmer I can get for $15, a guy in my town upgraded everything to has left over equipment. What about this one? He also has a RS Wavemaster Pro for $90.

Excalibur HV1, perhaps? It's a HOB, so if you're looking for in-sump stay away. Can't really comment in the quality as I have absolutely zero experience with the brand. But, at $15 it's a steal. If I was in your area I'd probably pick it up myself for nothing more than something to play with and try out.

Also, I'd jump all over that wavemaker if you don't already have one.

Also, this is my best guess for the first skimmer you posted. Again, at $40 it doesn't seem like a bad deal (especially if it comes with a pump, but at that price I doubt it does).

hahaha! thats what I was thinking, it looks really new and I heard they sell for over $150 new, at $15 I could at least give it try, I have a HOB now that I don't like to much and my sump/refugium should be completed next month, that's why I am looking for a good in-sump skimmer. No I don't have a wavemaker, might have to consider that, not sure how they work though.

Looking at the design of that HV1, does it pull the water from the surface of the tank? One last silly question, I already told him I would buy a Sea Clone for $5, but now I am thinking maybe just that Excalibur, is it better than the Sea Clone?

I believe so. Looks like it's designed to skim the surface (similar to a HOB overflow) then draw the water into the skimmer. But again, that's just my assumption from looking at a few pictures.

Does anyone know the pump that worked with the Excalibur HV1 or what pump/powerhead would work in them?

A buddy of mine had an Excalibur years ago and he had a Maxi Jet 1200 on it. At the same time I had a Sea Clone (It was a long time ago) his skimmer put mine to shame. In fact I was thoroughly impressed with that Excalibur. He hung his on the sump and it worked real well. For $15 take it.
