You'll definitely want a mix. The astreas get into places where the turbos just plain can't. I find the turbos will stick to the glass or rocks that tend to be smoother. The astreas will go on anything though.

astera can not right themselves if the fall on their backs though. They are good cleaners but can be clumsy. I have a varied mix to cover all bases, a few large turbos, some astrea, but mostly cerith and nerite snails. Also, the black mexican turbos don't get as large as the regular turbos.

I've yet to see one of my astreas fall over. Even had one with a turbo hanging on it's back and still didn't come unstuck. Don't be scared away from astreas, but do consider a good mix.

I have Margarita, Nassarius, Astera and Cerith snails in my tank and they do an outstanding job keeping everything clean. And as far as the Astrea snail righting themselves, Mine do; it's the turbo snails that cant.
As for the Nassarius and Cerith snails they spend a lot of time under the sand and come out when they smell food.
My Cerith snails whooped ass on the Cyano I had beginning to form in a matter of a few days.

I have some nassarius and some cerith and juvenile cerith. I dont like the larger snails and the green emerald I dont like either. The only good crab are the red and blue leg hermit....The rest are worthless. you want a good cuc go to reefcleaners.org the mans name is John Maloney he is a good man to trade with. Tell him what you have and what tank size and what you want and he will hook you up cheaper than any one else...and he has the good crabs.....good luck....

I have some mexican turbo snails. They are huge suckers. They really munch down on the algae, and can flip themselves over. They get pretty big though, and unfortunately mine have realized the algae on the clips is much better than hair algae. :-(
