Hey I'm trying to mix some saltwater and I heard that if you don't use a refractometer you need to let it chill for a while, about what temp can you measure the salt at? Thanks!

If your using a hydrometer it should be calibrated to reef temps all ready. Letting it sit will allow any excess ammonia that may have entered through lower grade components of the mix.

l believe with a refractometer , it can be measured at any temp. with a hydrometer, measured at tank temp.

you are supposed to calibrate the refractometer at around 69 degrees, but after that it can be any temperature. So says my directions in front of me anyway ;D

I'm glad you said the last part as most now a days are ATC. But you should still try to calibrate closer to reef temps even with ATC.

I'm rather surprised that there is a non ATC out there, must be one retooled from battery usage. Can you post the make of it?
