The little hole things on it open and close if that helps..I was thinking a type of sponge but i'm not sure..it had a really hard base and isnt very soft itself..i treated it like a sponge and didnt let it go into air...any ideas?????

It's completely reef-safe. On newer tanks, it might be hard to keep one well-fed as they are filter feeders and require a lot of particulate matter.

You think a tank that has been up for about 9 months will have enough little particles in it to keep it fed? I also do reef snow every couple days...how long do you think I should have my tank up before I can get a mandarin?

get a mandarin when you have a very noticeable amount of copepods living in your tank. they really need alot of those. otherwise you can buy live copepods to put in your tank.

wow your allowed to grab stuff off the reef like that? In australia our reefs are soo protected we cant even take boats into alot of areas, let alone pull things out.

thats what i was thinking. It would be nice to just crab the cleanup crew from the beach then go for a dive to get some corals. I would rather spend my money on a snorkel do-up then the LFS. But we all gotta keep going in the direction of tank-raised coral and fish.
